Why go to Church?Knowing Jesus makes church come aliveYou might be put off by organised religion. The media and the movies give God, the Bible and the Church a bad rap. God is portrayed as a mean angry God but nothing could be further from the truth, God loves everyone and he is a kind and merciful God. You might think that church is boring and that it is the last place that you would like to be. I used to think like that until I was in my late teens; it was at that time when I gave my life to Jesus. When you can feel God’s presence and you can know his joy inside you, things like going to church and reading the Bible take on a whole new meaning. Church becomes a place where you feel the weight of the world lifted off of your shoulders.It is also important to go to a church that is alive. If you are young and enjoy loud music then find a church that loves to praise God with loud music. Find a church where the people are smiling, not sleeping. Find a church that meets your needs, a church that provides teaching and where you can meet people with similar interests to yourself. See ‘How do you find the right Church?’ You will never find a church where all the people are perfect all of the time but if you look hard enough you can find a church that connects people to Jesus and helps you to grow as a Christian, a church that is excited about living and showing people God’s love. Why should you go to church?I am very shy and like to keep to myself. It is not easy for me to get myself to public places but I go to church because I know that I need to and once I get to church I am glad that I went. Without fellowship you can grow cold in your faith. Being around other Christians helps you to grow as a Christian. Other Christians motivate you.Miracles happen in church. Miracles like healings happen when Christians get together in Jesus’ name. Jesus said '… If two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.' Mat 18:19 (NLT) So if you want God to answer your prayers then it is important to have other Christians to pray with. To really know God’s love we need to receive love and give love, that happens through fellowship with other Christians. God loves unity; he uses unity to create a synergy that cannot be achieved by one person alone. When you have people who care about you, who are praying for you and encouraging you it is so much easier to keep on going. The Bible encourages Christians to get together And let us not neglect our meeting
together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other,
especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.

The Bible describes the Church as ‘the body of Christ’. If you are a
Christian then you are a part of Christ's body and you have a special
part to play. The body needs you to do your job and you need to be
joined to the body. When a hand is
severed it doesn’t live very long on it’s own. There is no blood
flowing into the hand, the cells do not get oxygen and all the other
things that they need to survive and so they all die. We need to
fellowship
with other Christians so that we can
share the life that God gives to us via his church. If you want to know God, his love and power, if you need answers to prayer or if you want God to heal you then I cannot encourage you enough to get yourself to a good church. |
