How can I help to spread God's love on the Internet? There are millions of people using the Internet every day. There are millions of people typing questions into search engines. I believe that within ten to twenty years people will start to talk about search engine ranking in the same way that they talk about ‘prime time’ television. Businesses will most likely be starting to do that already. There are people who go on the net to search for answers. People are asking questions about their purpose in life, others want to know about God and the Church. The Internet is a new mission field and it’s full of great potential. There are people out there who are searching and you can help provide them with answers that direct them towards Jesus. In July 2006 I typed, "Who is Jesus" into Google and the top ranked listing was Wikipedia. Please don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of Wikipedia, but it’s not the site I would recommend to someone who is searching for God. The goals of Internet evangelism should be to tell people that "Jesus is the answer" and then to help people find a church that will look after them, a church where they will grow in God and find some good friends. It would be great if more websites that offer answers from a Christian perspective were among the top websites in a search list. You can help in two ways. 1. First by praying. Websites are just words on a page and we need the Holy Spirit to draw people to Jesus. Please pray for all those hurting people out there that they will find that Jesus is the answer. 2. Start your own blog and link to Christian websites. When Christian websites link to each other (in search engine friendly ways) people will find Christian answers to the questions they are asking. For instance the webpage by Next Wave International, "What Is A Christian?", will be higher than Wikipedia on Google for the search "Who is Jesus" if enough Christians create a link with the words "Who is Jesus" to that page. You might not have your own website yet but it is not hard to set up. I have written a few tips on setting up blogs, see "How do I set up my own blog?" Once you have set up your blog then please include links to Christian websites that have resources for people who are searching for answers, see A list of Christian websites worth linking to. The more websites that have Christian answers the more chance that people with questions will find Christian answers to their questions. May God bless you, Les.
