How do I become a Christian? New Jesus Evidence Church Questions Christian living Recommended Creation Other Photo Tips Reviews Glossary |
To Sceptics who used to be ChristiansThis article is pointless in a way, I feel like there is no point in reasoning with a sceptic who used to be a Christian. How so? You are spoilt for this world. You are not trying to win a debate with me; you are trying to win a debate with an inner voice that will not be silenced. I believe the only reason you are reading this page right now is because you lack a feeling of complete security in your scepticism. I think that you feel that by winning a debate with creationists you can silence that inner voice. Who do you think you are kidding? Your head is saying one thing but your heart is saying another.Of course that is not a good argument on my part, is it? You are looking for a rational explanation and I’m appealing to your emotions and your intuition. Well lets cut a very long story short, just imagine that I directed you to Creation Ministries International website as well as Josh McDowell's skeptical page and you came back with the response that you have heard it all before. Let’s assume that you actually bothered to read my Miracles in the Philippines page and other such pages on my website but you just brushed those articles aside with some dismissive reply. Let’s say that we got out the big guns, I by asking, “How and why did the male and female reproductive systems evolve?” and “What happened before the big bang?” and “How did the first complex living cell arise?” and in response you hit me with “Who made God?” and “Why is there pain and suffering” and on and on and on … It just degenerates into a slanging match, so if you want to call yourself the queen bee or the alpha male then go right ahead, no one wins an argument anyway. If you want to claim that you are a better debater than I am then be my guest, it’s not that much of a triumph. But what if by doing that you are just giving yourself a false sense of security? Will that false sense of security actually silence the nagging feeling that will not go away? I sincerely doubt it. God has revealed himself to me and I could just as easily deny the existence of the nose on my face. He has revealed himself to millions of people all over the world and he may well have done so for you too, it might be that you are deliberately suppressing the memories of those times. Was it just emotion? Are you sure? Are you really sure? … Why not just ask God to make himself real to you again and then with an attitude of faith, why don’t you ask God to show you where scientific naturalism has got it wrong and where he has got it right? Why don’t you ask God to remind you of those times when he was real to you and to show you how your understanding could be limited in regard to these issues? (See Prov 3:5 and Prov 14:12) Do I really expect this approach to work? Let me put it this way I would rather you experience a genuine one-second encounter with God's power than one year of my own reasoning. You are not likely to experience God's power unless you seek him. In Jeremiah 29:13 God said "If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me." (NLT). If you genuinely seek God, he will reveal himself to you. The choice is yours. God really does love you and he would welcome you back with more eager anticipation than the father of the prodigal son welcomed home his lost son. God does not want anyone to be lost and that includes you. (see 2 Pet 3:9). I don’t want to win a debate; I just want to see you in Heaven. I pray that will happen by God’s grace.
