How can so many scientists be wrong about evolution?With such a tide of scientific opinion in favour of evolution how can Creationists claim to be right? How can so many evolutionists be wrong?Operational vs. Historical ScienceThe science of how life came about is like detective work because you need to gather clues and examine them to build up a story about what happened in the past. So the science of how life came about is historical science as opposed to operational science. Operational science can be done in a laboratory where you can watch things happen but with historical science you cannot watch the things that happened in the past.A key part of investigating the past is getting an eyewitness account of the event. Evolutionists don’t believe that anyone has given us such an eyewitness account but by using a Biblical perspective, creationists believe that God was there and that he is able to tell us what happened. When evolutionists examine the evidence, they do not base their thinking on the Bible, in fact they deliberately choose to ignore it. Leaving the Largest Factor Out of the EquationIn maths and computer programming it is easy to make simple mistakes that end up causing huge errors.For example think of the equation 1000 x 2 x 3 = 6000 Even small mistakes can add up to make a large difference. If we leave out the 2 we get 1000 x 3 = 3000 But if we forget the 1000 we get 2 x 3 = 6 The ‘1000’ is the greatest factor, so leaving out the greatest factor creates the greatest error. Of course my equation is a simple one and I’m not trying to imply that the question of how life came about is that simple. Deliberate Rejection of GodNot only do evolutionists reject the Bible but also deliberately exclude using a 'Creator' as an explanation.In Refuting Evolution, Jonathon Sarfati quotes Richard Dickerson as saying Science, fundamentally, is a game. It
is a game with one overriding and defining rule:
Rule No 1: Let us see how far and to what extent we can explain the behaviour of the physical and material universe in terms of purely physical and material causes, without invoking the supernatural. Sarfati also quotes prominent evolutionist Richard Lewontin as saying We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of
some of its constructs, of its failure to fulfil many of its
extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the
scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we
have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that
the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a
material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary,
that we are forced by our a priori
adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation
and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how
counter-intuitive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated.
Moreover, that materialism is an absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine
Foot in the door.
But is that a reasonable attitude to have? How can you investigate God’s creation if you deliberately ignore God? It was God who the created laws of science so those laws can be understood as the work of an Intelligent Designer. The reason that the laws of physics are rational, ordered and reliable is because they have their source in a rational, ordered and reliable God. Evolutionists assume that they can use the present to explain the past. They wrongly assume that because they don’t see God creating things today that they can ignore God altogether. So by leaving an all powerful, all knowing God out of the picture, evolutionists are deliberately removing the greatest factor out of the equation. No wonder they have got it so wrong. The Biblical perspective on ignoring GodHere is what the Bible has to say about ignoring God.But God shows his anger from heaven
against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from
themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God
has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was
created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They
can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine
nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Rom
1:18-20 (NLT)
The Bible says that the knowledge of God is instinctive. People lose that instinctive knowledge of God because they “push the truth away from themselves.” Deliberately ignoring God when it comes to science is what I would call pushing the truth away from oneself. Why do people reject the truth? Jesus said They hate the light because they want
to sin in the darkness. They stay away from the light for fear their
sins will be exposed and they will be punished. John 3:20 (NLT)
Jesus often used the word “light” as a descriptive word for “truth”, so Jesus taught that a reason that people would reject the truth is because they loved being ignorant of the truth so they could go on doing whatever they wanted. Of course other things come into this like professional pride and peer pressure (no one likes being different from everyone else). But God is not someone that you would want to ignore if you knew what he is really like. The reason that God gives us instructions on how to live is because he knows what is to our ultimate benefit. He loves us and he puts up those boundaries in order to protect us not to spoil our fun. However because he loves us he also gives us a free choice, so that we can decide for ourselves whether or not to stay within those boundaries. People were designed to know God, we were designed to be fulfilled and to find our destiny in him, so when we deliberately chose to ignore him we have to look for fulfilment in other things (like drugs, relationships and status) and when we do, we become addicted to those other things. It is God’s establishing of free choice that is another reason why so many intelligent people can be so unaware of God’s existence. To give us free choice God had to create a reality where it is possible to ignore him if that is what we really wanted to do. He made a reality where it is instinctive to believe in him but if we persistently drift away from him we can justify it in our own thinking. People do not always believe what they are forced to believe, they tend to believe what they want to believe. Denial is the first stage in dealing with grief, when people hear that someone has died their first comment is usually something like, “That can’t be true, I was talking to him/her the other day.” God has designed our psychological makeup, the circumstances of our lives and our reality in such a way that we can chose to believe what we want to, so that he can be as near or a distant as we want him to be. Finding GodIt is possible to look at the same scientific data as evolutionists do and interpret it within a Biblical framework.See this excerpt from Refuting Evolution – chapter 1 for more on the topic of “Evolution & creation, science & religion, facts & bias”, (there are links to the other chapters of the book from that page). Creationists who are scientists with PhDs are able to accept the Biblical account of creation and can explain what they observe in a Biblical framework simply because they chose not to ignore the greatest factor in the equation. The intelligent design movement has shown that there are many complex designs within living things that are extremely difficult to explain using evolution. Millions of Christians all over the world have found that God can be as real in their lives as they want him to be. God is not hard to find if you genuinely want to find him, all you have to do is seek him. Jer 29:13 says, “If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me.” If you want God to be real in your life then I encourage you to start by praying to God (Praying is just like talking to God). You can pray something like this, “God if you are real then I would like to know you, please make yourself real to me, I ask this in Jesus name.” It is also helpful to investigate the evidence for Jesus, visit a good church and find out “How to become a Christian”. |
